Caroline Herring - I Will Go Into The Day

I have had a busy but fun/productive week working on the album sleeve for a new children's project by folk singer/songwriter Caroline Herring. It is called 'I will Go Into The Day' and is an album about 'the joys of imaginative play and the great outdoors.'
The design for the cover was inspired by the designs of the wonderful Baltimore Album Quilts, signature quilts and the beautiful paper-cuts of Johann-Jakob Hauswirth and Louis- David Saugy, and incorporates motifs inspired by the lyrics in the songs.
Release date to be announced soon.

Tiny Showcase

Tiny showcase have produced a new colourway (although it seems quite similar to the original...) of my Alphabet of Superstitions print, at a new A2 size which is selling for a steal at only $25 a print on their website here. Tiny Showcase are a great little business that produce limited runs of artists prints which they sell at (extremely) affordable prices through the internet, with part of the proceeds going to the artist and part of the proceeds going to the artist's chosen charity - I chose to donate to Burma Education Partnership - a small charity based in the North East who would greatly appreciate any donation small or big.
'Due to war, poverty and oppression, thousands of people have fled Burma to live as migrants or refugees on the Thai/Burma border. Burma Education Partnership deploys Mobile Teacher Units in these scattered, displaced communities to train local teachers.'

Marigolds Finest

Had a lovely job recently working on some packaging for new on the scene chocolate maker Marigolds Finest, based in Canada. I produced 3 patterns to go with the different origins of cocoa beans and a logo. All stoneground and made from 75% cacao this chocolate definitely lives up to it's fine name! A nice delivery this morning let me see the packaging in the flesh...(apologies for the very bad photos!)

A Time From The World - Rowena Farre

I had a great time over the summer working on this book for Little Toller which is now available to purchase over on their website. Here is a selection of the chapter headings I provided throughout the book of which one (chapter 6) is now available as a limited edition print over on Little Toller's website.
The book tells the story of the author who split her life between studying at art school in London and spending time among different Gypsy communities across the country. It provides a sensitive observation on two very different ways of living and reveals the rewarding friendships, freedom and love she found whilst taking 'A Time From The World'.
If you weren't already aware of it Little Toller also republished the wonderful (and one of my favourite books) 'Unsophisticated Arts' by Barbara Jones earlier in the year.

Ben Pentreath Ltd. Cabinet of Curiosities: L O N D O N

I am exhibiting some new prints at this Ben Pentreath Ltd's Cabinet of Curiosities this year. Themed this year on our capital (and organised by Bridie Hall and Ruth Guilding of The Bible of British Taste) I produced a series of drawings of municipal fountains found around the city aswell as a this mighty 6 layer screenprint of snowglobes - a clever layer of gloss providing their glass. The fountains are A4 and will retail at £36, the snowglobes are 16 x 44cm and will be retailing at £65. The show opens tomorrow night and runs to 2nd November at Ben Pentreath ltd. 17 Rugby Street, London, WC1. Pop along if you can!

Bookplate

A recent lovely commission to design a bookplate for a private client. Based on the presentation of the first pineapple in Britain to Charles II. Did you know a pineapple is a symbol of hospitality? I didn't!

Mass Observation: This is your photo

I went to see the Mass Observation show at the Photographer's Gallery last night - and it was fantastic. Beautifully observed photographs and moving documentation of 'ordinary' life. Only on for another week so try and stop in if you have a chance. A couple of photos here from the gallery's website.

Postman's Park

Whilst walking around a rainy city gathering research for a project I went in to Postman's park to read the plaques - some sad and intriguing stories to be found.
