Coast Magazine

I have some illustrations in this month's Coast magazine...I was lucky to get to illustrate an article about Brighton which was great being sat in the centre of it while I did it! The other was a very interesting article about scallop diving written by Guy Grieve. If you look closely throughout the magazine you will notice some little decorative embellishments every now and again too! (p.s excuse the floor photos)

Curious Pursuits

I am pleased to have been chosen to exhibit some prints as part of Art historian collective Porter and Jenkinson's 'Curious Pursuits' exhibition which will be on throughout February at Manchester's Portico Library and Gallery. Look at their intriguing and exciting blog here and try and get along to the exhibition - the library looks like the perfect setting for their 'pursuit for all things Victorian, curious and strange'.

Had a nice trip to the Bowes Museum yesterday with mother to look at nice things...haven't been in years so it was good to see the new costume gallery and find the new home of the 2-headed/ legged calf. Lion Street Store

This is a bit of an overdue post. I am now selling my work in Lion Street Store in Rye, East Sussex. It is a design led fmaily store stocking 'the finest in unusual homewares, toys, textiles, jewellery, stationery and confectionary alongside original artwork and prints.' If you are in the area you should pop in...Rye has lots to offer! I also designed the gift vouchers for the store which was really fun. They can be bought in denominations of £1, £5, £10 and £20 - a great Xmas present idea!

The book launch for the wonderful Postcards from Europe exhibition went down in Wem yesterday and was a resounding success. The exhibition was beautifully presented, inspiring and intriguing and the book reflects this alongside interviews from both established and emerging artists. Here are a few photos of the event but you can still keep up to date and see pictures of all the postcards on their website HERE. Well done Portmanteau! I am very proud to be part of such a great project.

Telling the Bees

This is my favourite image I have done in a while. It is an A2 4 colour screen print about the Sussex tradition of 'telling the bees'.
If the bees weren't told of any important event they would withhold their honey from the owners. If there was a death in the family the hive would be decorated with a black crepe bow otherwise the bees would die in sympathy.

I picked up this book for a mere 50p last weekend. It is full of lovely illustrations of London and London traditions. This little image of the pearly Kings and Queens reminded me of these drawings that I did earlier this Summer. I think this was my favourite bag at the market. Two terrifying but wonderful 'amateur art' handmade dolls, another doll whose dress I want as my own, and a poodle's head. I love the amount of time the person who made the dolls obviously put in- they have furry eyelashes, silky underwear and a greaseproof paper belt!
