Some of millie's friends from Kingston are setting up "a new platform for artists and designers to showcase their talents in a product based format, run by new designers for new designers and artists" under the name of TWELVE. Their first project is a set of hand screenprinted Christmas cards illustrating the 12 days of Christmas designed by up and coming designers and illustrators. Hope they don't mind me posting this.....!I did 'Eight Maids a Milking'. (Have a look at millie's on her blog!)
Keep an eye out for a website soon and buy your Christmas cards this year from them!

Apple Wassailing

'Apple Tree, Apple Tree, bear good fruit, or down with your top and up with your root.'
To be screenprinted.

The Victorians had a lot of superstitions and rituals surrounding death, amongst many, one of my favourites was the tear bottle. The person mourning would catch their tears into a vial (the more and louder the crying the more compassionate the person was seen to be) then when all the tears had evaporated it was considered that the mourning period was over.

Hand of Glory

In preparation to screenprint

Saturday, 18 September 2010

Hand Of Glory.

The Hand of Glory is a dismembered hand that has been cut off the body of a murderer whilst still hanging on the gallows. It was believed that by lighting a candle in it's fingers (or lighting the hand itself) that it would stupefy anyone who saw it allowing anybody to complete a crime with ease. The only way to put the hand of glory out is to pour milk over it!
More to come soon.

Seeing as I am apparently the least employable person in Brighton I have been feeling pretty bored and fairly lonely, listening to bad music and feeling cynical about life post graduation. But I have done some drawings of ceramic figures and scent bottles in my sketchbook today to warm me up so hopefully this the start of a clean slate....

Love Spoons

I have just done these papercuts of lovespoons which I am going to turn into a screenprinted wrapping paper with some drawn elements aswell. The love spoon acted as an object of engagement before the engagement ring. A man would sculpt and carve the spoons with symbols of love and the initials of the girl he hoped to marry. If the girl accepted the spoon the couple were considered to be engaged.

Whistles Street Drawings

Illustrations on the streets of Brighton....see if you can spot any...unless it has rained a lot from when I make this post.

LMNOP shop

I am selling some of my prints in LMNOP shop which has just opened in Hove. Go and have a look...should be lots of exciting and inspiring things to buy and look at!
Have a look at their website: looks like you will be able to buy online in the near future!

Whistles Flyer

They also used a couple of my arrows on this flyer that was giving 15% off to customers.

I recently got commissioned by Whistles to do some promotional street illustrations for their new store that has just opened in Brighton. These were the images that got chosen to be used. I will post photos of the street drawings later!
